Since its establishment in 1941, the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art (EMA) at Indiana University (IU) has grown from a small university teaching collection into one of the foremost university art museums in the country. A preeminent teaching museum, its internationally acclaimed collection includes more than 47,000 objects representing nearly every art‑producing culture throughout history. Collection areas include African art, ancient art, Asian art, global contemporary art, European and American Art, Indigenous art, Oceanic art, and prints, drawings, and photography.
The Summer Education Intern will assist the Education Department with daily operations of the museum's Summer Art Camps. This position is ideal for a college student majoring in education, art education, or studio art who is interested in gaining hands‑on experience in arts‑based teaching and museum education.
Department‑Specific Responsibilities
Assists with lesson preparation, including organizing materials and setting up art‑making spaces.
Supports teaching artists and staff during camp sessions.
Helps supervise campers during art activities, transitions, and lunch breaks.
Assists with parent and guardian communication during drop‑off and pick‑up times.
Maintains cleanliness and organization of the studio before, during, and after sessions.
Helps document camp activities through photographs or written summaries (for use in reports or social media).
Restocks and inventories art supplies as needed.
Participates in brief daily planning and debrief meetings with staff.
Designs and teaches 1 short art activity or mini‑lesson under staff guidance.
Serves as a positive role model, promoting creativity, curiosity, and respect in the studio environment.
EDUCATION
Required
Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University majoring in Education, Art Education, Studio Art, Museum Studies, or related field.
Preferred
Experience working with children in a classroom, camp, or educational setting.

The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up 20 to 40 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.
This internship will run only from June 29, 2026 – July 31, 2026.

Compensation: $16.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 4 hours per day
