Design Drafter
Titus Talent Strategies, Sugar Land, TX, United States
Our partner is seeking a Cable Harness Design Drafter to create technical 2D and 3D drawings of wiring systems that ensure efficient and safe electrical connectivity across a range of applications, including industrial equipment, aerospace, and vehicle systems. This role serves as a critical bridge between schematic design and production, with a strong focus on design for manufacturability (DFMA) and accuracy.
Who They Are Looking For
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented cable harness design professional who can translate electrical concepts into accurate, manufacturable documentation. This individual brings strong CAD expertise, a solid understanding of electrical systems, and the ability to interpret schematics and route complex wiring assemblies. They ensure that all harness designs meet applicable industry standards, support reliable signal and power transmission, and are optimized for efficient assembly. This person collaborates cross-functionally with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams, contributes to BOM development, and provides hands‑on support during prototyping, first article inspection (FAI), and troubleshooting efforts.
Responsibilities
Develop, revise, and document wire harness assemblies, including 3D CAD modeling and 2D drafting
Create accurate, manufacturable designs that support reliable electrical, signal, and power transmission while optimizing cost
Interpret schematics, route wiring, select components, and generate Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Design 3D harness routing and 2D fabrication drawings using tools such as Altium and Autodesk Inventor
Generate detailed documentation, including BOMs, connector/pin lists, and wire specification tables
Ensure compliance with industry standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620, SAE-AS50881, MIL-DTL-38999, UL, and ANSI Y14.5/14.41
Apply DFMA principles to optimize designs for assembly, including routing, bend radii, and cable management
Collaborate with electrical and mechanical teams to ensure proper integration within overall product assemblies
Provide technical support during prototype builds, FAI, and production troubleshooting
Education & Experience
Typically 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment (entry-level candidates may also be considered)
Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, drafting, or a related technical field
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced CAD proficiency in 3D tools (such as Creo Pro-Cable/Wiring) and 2D tools (Autodesk Inventor), along with schematic tools like Visio
Strong knowledge of electrical circuits, wire types, shielding, connectors, and terminal specifications
Familiarity with industry standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620 and MIL-DTL-38999
Excellent attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional environment
Equal Opportunity Employer
Our partner is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all individuals. Employment decisions are based on qualifications, merit, and business needs, without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status under applicable law.
