Primary Responsibilities:

Delivering instruction aligned with established curricula and course outcomes

Fostering a learning environment that values diversity, inclusion, and open discourse

Encouraging critical thinking, collaboration, and communication through performance and discussion.

Evaluating student work through presentations, written reflections, and class participation

Maintaining professional, accurate academic records and timely grade submissions

Adhering to AMDA’s standards of academic excellence and professional ethics

Participating in relevant professional development or departmental activities as needed

Qualifications:

Experience teaching within a conservatory or arts-based institution

Background in voice, speech, or performance-oriented communication

Ongoing scholarship or creative activity in communication, pedagogy, or performing arts

Required Educational Credentials:

Terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., DFA) in Communication, Rhetoric, or a closely related discipline

Master’s degree in communication studies, Educational Leadership, Public Speaking, or related discipline with substantial college-level teaching experience.

Required Educational Credentials:

Minimum of three years teaching Oral Communication or related coursework in higher education

Demonstrated experience with student-centered and innovative teaching methodologies

Proficiency with instructional technology and digital learning platforms (e.g., Canvas)

Commitment to academic excellence, diversity, equity, and life‑long learning

Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable field

Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and practices that enhance student success at higher education institutions, including effective use of technology

Excellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills

Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for life‑long learning

Successful candidates will be able to apply their discipline expertise in a manner/context that is relevant to emerging performing artists

Position Information:

The pay range for this position is $45 - $60 per hour for classroom teaching

This position is subject to a background check upon a conditional offer of employment and a reference check.

For administrative and tasks assigned or volunteered outside of classroom teaching hours will be paid at a standard hourly rate of $35.
