Area Business Development Manager

BASIC PURPOSE
The Area Business Development Manager will be responsible for prospecting and closing new account business within the assigned area. Focus will be on accounts signed up through our Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) partners. The role plays an integral part in helping the area achieve growth objectives and is expected to exceed revenue and profit goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Promote and sell products, services, and solutions to potential customers through our GPO partner programs.

Generate new account revenue in line with organization and individual targets and quotas for the assigned area.

Identify key targets and gain alignment with RVP National Sales and Area VP, National Sales; track and monitor pipeline and opportunities to move customers through the sales cycle.

Coordinate organizational alignment and resources to support the value proposition and onboarding of customers, including Finance, Operations, Merchandising and Logistics.

Assist central onboarding and area teams to ensure a successful transition of accounts to Account Executives and, if needed, Sales & Service Directors.

Attend training and adopt sales processes and techniques for the GPO programs, including documentation and reporting.

Act as an expert on the value propositions of all GPO partners to support the selling process and ensure contractual promises are met.

Monitor and evaluate sales training programs, assess results, and recommend enhancements to improve program effectiveness and revenue, profit outcomes.

Support RVP National Sales and Area VP, National Sales in developing sales objectives and strategies to maximize profitability.

Frequent overnight travel is required.

SUPERVISION
None.

RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: Direct contact with senior level staff and sales associates throughout the organization.
External: Executive level of potential customers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.

Minimum seven years of proven success in selling new accounts or dramatically increasing penetration of existing accounts, preferably in the foodservice industry.

Prior demonstrated success in new business development sales through intermediaries.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships internally and externally.

Ability to leverage relationships to achieve business goals and work in a matrix environment.

Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and follow‑through skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office products.

Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and follow a consistent sales methodology.

Track record of closing sales.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work in an area or home office environment. Frequent overnight travel is required.

BENEFITS
Annual incentive plan bonus up to 25% of base salary. Eligible benefits may include health insurance, pre‑tax spending accounts, retirement benefits, paid time off, short‑term and long‑term disability, employee stock purchase plan, and life insurance.

COMPENSATION
Base salary range: $75,000 – $125,000.
