Avionics Systems Engineer – Long Beach, CA
Boeing Global Services (BGS) is seeking a skilled Avionics Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team in Long Beach, CA. This position is part of the C-17 Military Airlifter Program within the Avionics/Flight Management & Software Engineering organization.

Responsibilities

The role will broaden with experience in areas such as navigation and localization, guidance and flight controls, federal and military regulations, and policies.

Primary focus on the Flight Management System, responsible for Flight Planning
avigation, guidance, control, display, and automation.

Work with customers and lead internal teams to develop and document complex electronic and electrical system requirements.

Analyze and translate requirements into system, hardware, and software designs and interface specifications.

Oversee testing and validation to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements.

Provide support for fielded hardware and software throughout the product lifecycle.

Demonstrate a continuous learning mindset, seeking feedback and incorporating self‑analysis to improve performance.

Develop and maintain knowledge, skills, and capabilities to perform all tasks effectively.

Understand the big picture and inter‑relationships among all system components, anticipating impacts of changes and applying systems thinking principles.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

Five or more years of industry experience in design and implementation.

Programming experience in Ada, C, C++, C#, Java, Fortran, or Python.

Ability to derive, allocate, and trace requirements throughout the product lifecycle.

Capability to conceive, develop, optimize, maintain, and modify electronic/electrical system designs based on requirements.

Experience coordinating with internal and external suppliers and customers.

Knowledge of verification, validation, certification, and qualification processes and governing regulations.

Ability to assess and document test or analysis data to demonstrate compliance.

Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or an equivalent qualification directly related to the work.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

Level 5: Ten or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience working with DOORS to generate and analyze system requirements.

Familiarity with Waterfall, Agile processes, and project management tools such as Confluence, Jira, and Version One.

Experience with MIL‑STD‑1553 and ARINC‑429 communication protocols.

Knowledge of RTCA DO‑178, DO‑254, and DO‑160.

Experience with MIL‑HDBK‑516C.

One of the following: Military/Commercial Aircrew experience, Private Pilot License, or Flight Instructor certification.

Pay & Benefits
Competitive base pay and variable compensation opportunities.

Pay ranges:

Expert level (Level 4): 146,200 – 197,800

Consultant level (Level 5): 176,800 – 239,200

Export Control Requirements
Job must meet U.S. export control compliance. A “U.S. Person” (Citizen, National, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) is required.
