Business Development Manager

Job Purpose
A Business Development Manager works to improve the company’s market position and achieve revenue growth. The role supports long‑term strategic goals by building key customer relationships, identifying business opportunities, negotiating, closing deals, and maintaining a deep understanding of current market conditions. Working with internal teams—marketing, product, and other managers—the manager increases sales opportunities, maximizes revenue, finds potential new customers, presents to them, converts them into clients, and continues to grow the business over time. The manager also helps manage existing clients, ensuring their satisfaction and addressing any service requests or complaints promptly.

Duties And Responsibilities

Propose new jobs and deliver bid packages promptly.

Prepare presentations for prospective customers that highlight company capabilities.

Sell profitable new work within the targeted demographic.

Participate in estimating and pricing the solution/service.

Develop and accurately maintain an opportunity pipeline via the provided CRM.

Establish lists of desirable customers.

Conduct daily sales calls and appointments.

Build relationships with new customers by participating in events and trade associations for customers & facility management industries.

Work with management to ensure new clients are successfully transitioned to Account Managers and Operations teams.

Coordinate sales efforts with other Business Development Managers within the company.

Develop community ties to enhance the public image and brand of the Company.

Maintain positive relations with other companies in the industry and related industries.

Represent GroundSystems in the marketplace with the utmost integrity and professionalism.

Maintain awareness and provide feedback on customer relationships and perceptions of the services provided to maximize customer retention.

Assist in goal setting and planning.

Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field.

Broad knowledge of horticulture and landscape industry knowledge.

Three to five years of sales experience.

Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, present information, and respond to questions, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to work independently and in team settings.

Negotiation skills.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.

Problem‑solving skills.

Proficiency in MS Office applications and CRM entry.

Current driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Self‑motivated to achieve goals.

Strong attention to detail and ability to exercise sound judgment.

Key Performance Indicators

Actual sales to goal.

Close‑ratio on proposals presented.

Profitability/Gross margin achievement.

Ratio of proposals submitted to sales goal.

Accuracy and completeness of customer database.

Customer retention.

Working Conditions
The position requires extended hours and flexibility in schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on customer demands and snow removal operations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to sit, walk, stand for up to seven (7) hours at a time, use hands to handle objects, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, talk and hear. The team member must occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds. Vision and the ability to read documents and a computer screen are essential. Reasonable accommodations may enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

Work Environment – This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate. Limited travel is required as needed.

Reports To
This position reports directly to the Sales Manager.

Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 per year.
