Overview
(Houston, TX): Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a
Welder
to join an operations team supporting industrial bearing repair and welding activities at a Houston-area facility. This role is responsible for performing advanced welding and babbitting processes on bearing components while ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and customer specifications.
Responsibilities
Perform babbitting (lining and relining) of bearings using tin- and lead-based babbitt alloys
Prepare bearing shells through cleaning, tinning, and application of bonding agents
Pour, centrifugally cast, or static cast babbitt material into prepared shells
Machine, bore, and finish babbitted surfaces to precise tolerances using lathes, mills, and other precision equipment
Inspect bearings for wear, cracks, bonding issues, and other defects
Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders
Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, etc.) to verify specifications
Perform visual inspection of welds and apply grinding or upgrade techniques as required
Set up positioners, thermal blankets, induction heaters, and related equipment prior to work
Track usage of consumables including burrs, torch tips, temperature sticks, and related materials
Perform preventive maintenance on shop equipment and maintain an organized work area
Assist in troubleshooting, repair, and rebuild of large industrial bearings
Maintain accurate records of work performed, including material usage and inspection documentation
Follow all safety and environmental procedures when working with molten metals, torches, and machinery
Notify Quality and Production leadership of non-conformities and assist with resolution
Support additional projects and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements/Skills
Minimum of 5 years of welding experience, preferably in industrial bearing repair
Strong knowledge of babbitting, bearing repair, or precision metalwork
Expert-level experience with manual GTAW welding; automatic welding experience is a plus
Proficiency with precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and calipers
Ability to inspect and record measurements to customer, OEM, and industry standards
Strong safety-first mindset with commitment to safety excellence
Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills
Basic computer and math proficiency
Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required
Ability to operate pallet jacks, small lifts, and other lifting equipment
High School Diploma or GED required; post-secondary welding education preferred
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
Authorized to work in the United States
Ability to pass pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, physical, and background check
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance
Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, kneel, reach, crawl, and balance for extended periods
Ability to work in a shop environment for a minimum of 8 hours per day
Ability to use hands for assembly and tool operation
Ability to work around propane/acetylene torches and molten metals
No allergies or medical restrictions related to handling aluminum, copper, bronze, or steel
Exposure to moderate noise levels and moving mechanical equipment in a shop environment
