Position: CAD Design Technician

Minimum Hourly Rate: $55.00
Maximum Hourly Rate: $65.00

Qualifications

7+ years of CAD design/drafting experience, preferably with a focus on electrical power and control systems.

Expert‑level AutoCAD experience required; strong ability to create and modify complex electrical drawings.

Deep knowledge of electrical design principles, including breaker sizing, load calculations, and power distribution layouts.

Experience conducting field measurements and developing designs based on real‑world data.

Ability to collaborate with engineers, designers, and plant personnel.

Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation practices.

Responsibilities

Electrical Design & Drafting

Work closely with Electrical Engineers and Designers to create detailed electrical drawings, including:

Power and control wiring diagrams

Instrumentation loops

Electrical schematics

Cable tray layouts

Electrical and instrumentation details

Cable schedules

Produce accurate 2D/3D AutoCAD drawings based on field findings and engineering direction.

Ensure drawings comply with internal standards, safety requirements, and industry codes.

Field Work & Data Collection

Conduct on‑site field visits to gather measurements, verify existing installations, and collect data needed for new or updated designs.

Document field conditions thoroughly (measurements, equipment labeling, routing information, site photos) and translate findings into updated engineering drawings.

Interface with plant personnel when needed to clarify equipment access, layouts, and existing electrical infrastructure.

Electrical System Expertise

Demonstrate strong understanding of electrical power distribution systems.

Perform sizing and selection of circuit breakers and other protective devices as required for design packages.

Read, interpret, and update one line diagrams, panel schedules, and equipment lists.

Collaboration & Project Support

Work with project teams, including designers and engineers, throughout the design and review process.

Support design reviews by providing drawing updates, design clarifications, and field verification as needed.

Maintain organized documentation and revision control across multiple projects.

Travel & Work Environment

Estimated travel: ~25%, primarily for field visits.

Driving required only for sporadic site visits; most work is local to Chesterfield.

When travel is needed, leased fleet vehicles are available.

Typical site locations include Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa.

The CAD Design Technician uses computer‑aided design (CAD) software to create detailed 2D and 3D models for engineering and manufacturing projects. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of electrical design principles and manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with electrical power systems, field data collection, and translating real‑world conditions into accurate AutoCAD drawings.
