CNC MACHINIST

NATURE OF WORK
The CNC Operator will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines to produce precision parts according to engineering specifications. This role requires attention to detail, technical skill, and a commitment to quality and safety. The ideal candidate will be proficient in reading blueprints, working with tight tolerances, and collaborating with engineering and other teams to bring complex designs to life.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Set up and operate CNC machines (mills, lathes, and Haas VF6) to produce parts to specification
Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to determine machining requirements
Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials for each job
Monitor machine operations, adjust settings, and perform quality checks using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of CNC equipment
Troubleshoot machining issues and collaborate with engineers to improve processes
Document production activities and maintain accurate records of parts and materials
Ensure compliance with safety standards and shop protocols
Fabricate parts using saws, grinders, shears, brakes, and other shop tools.
Assemble mechanical systems and automation equipment per engineering drawings and schematics.
Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment safely.
Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and electricians to ensure proper fit and function of assemblies.
Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety standards
Strong Interpersonal Skills: Effectively collaborate with management and team members
Assist in training new team members on welding techniques and shop safety
Team Building: Foster mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among all team members
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
Experience with multi-axis CNC machines or advanced machining centers (Haas VF6 perferred)
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD/CAM outputs
Familiarity with CAD/CAM software
Knowledge of automation systems and robotics integration
Skilled in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, CMMs)
Understanding of tooling selection, setup, and optimization for different materials
Experience with machine offsets, tool changes, and fixture setup
Knowledge of cutting speeds, feeds, and machining parameters for metals, plastics, and composites
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Must be a self-starter, team player, work well with others, and have a positive attitude
Knowledgeable of automation components preferred, but not required
Must have ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines
Safety Compliance (OSHA, PPE)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in CNC machining preferred
2+ years of experience operating CNC machines in a manufacturing or machine shop environment
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and G-code programming
Proficiency with measuring tools and quality inspection techniques
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
Commitment to safety, precision, and continuous improvement
Must be able to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
