Camp Indigo: Team Leader (Kids Ages 5-11)

thecampindigo, Columbus, OH, United States

Camp Indigo, the first day camp for transgender and gender nonconforming kids, is looking for Team Leaders for the 2026 season. Team Leaders work in groups of 2-3 and are responsible for the safety and fun of a team of 15-25 campers of like ages. This position requires a certain campy pizazz and is instrumental in building and maintaining the Camp Indigo culture our families know and love.

Responsibilities

Managing and energizing a group of age-specific campers throughout their camp day

Making every moment count by filling transition times with games and jokes, utilizing each opportunity to make your team feel connected and special

Escorting campers to different activities and keeping constant track of the safety and location of each of the children on your team

Managing checkout and developing friendly relationships with campers’ guardians

Assisting with daily setup and cleanup of camp

Supporting Lead Instructors with classroom activities - including classroom management and camper engagement

Skills

Experience and familiarity with the transgender youth community

Ability to match the energy, sense of humor and needs of 5-12 year olds

Practice “Yes Leadership” - where we proactively look for ways to improve the program and experience of our campers and adult peers

An outgoing and energetic personality. To be clear, we don’t expect everyone to be wild extroverts. We actually need our introverts. AND we still need all staff to be able to meet the energy needs to campers

Clear and effective communication skills. We lift each other up - and this means addressing conflict as it happens, setting body and emotional boundaries, and being an ally to our camp community

A strong practice of reliability and punctuality. Camp only runs 1-4 weeks depending on location. Your fellow staff (and campers) are counting on you!

Willingness to try new things. Sometimes it gets weird and messy around here. We need you to be excited about that

First aid/CPR Certified certified preferred

Childcare experience required. This might look like many different things depending on your age. Babysitting, teaching, mentoring, camp experience - all good! Working with kids requires a certain je ne sais quoi - we just need to know that you dig it.
