Position Summary
The Planner & Buyer is responsible for ensuring the timely availability of materials and components required to support production and customer demand. This role combines materials planning (forecasting, scheduling, inventory management) with purchasing execution (supplier coordination, purchase order management, and cost/support activities). The position works cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, Quality, Logistics, and Finance to balance service levels, inventory targets, and total cost.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain production and material plans to meet customer demand and manufacturing schedules.

Analyze demand forecasts, production requirements, and inventory levels to prevent shortages or excess stock.

Manage MRP inputs and outputs, including planned orders, reschedules, and cancellations.

Coordinate with production, operations, and warehouse teams to align material availability with build schedules.

Monitor inventory levels and recommend adjustments to safety stock, reorder points, and lead times.

Maintain accurate planning data in eRP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Epicor, or similar).

Provide regular updates on material status, risks, and mitigation plans to stakeholders.

Purchase parts, equipment, and materials by preparing requests for quotations and submitting purchase orders with approved suppliers.

Issue purchase orders and agreements that accurately reflect price, schedule, terms, and conditions as negotiated with suppliers.

Maintain accuracy of open purchase orders, quotes, work orders, and part master data. Maintain accurate lead times for assigned commodities.

Monitor and evaluate production execution to plan and supplier performance. Advise appropriate personnel of production issues or impending supplier failure.

Resolve shipment quality discrepancies by mediating supplier/manufacturing issues and facilitating resolution via conferences between suppliers and company personnel.

Negotiate and settle damage claims, rejections, losses, returns of materials, over-shipments, cancellations, and engineering changes with suppliers.

Assist in executing requisite system transactions needed to support receipt, storage, and transfer of material.

Participate in continuous improvement activities and provide suggestions for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.

Comply with federal, state, and aerospace industry regulations; ensure adherence to requirements and advise management on needed actions. Comply with Government/Commercial Practices Manual (GPM/CPM) policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (BA) in Business Administration, Supply Chain Operations or related field required.

4+ years’ experience in manufacturing environment required.

APICS certificate preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of manufacturing resources planning theories/systems, principles, software, and industry practices.

Ability to effectively assess and implement continuous improvement methods (e.g., pull systems, process mapping, JIT).

Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and internal policy requirements related to production control.

Pay, Benefits, Work Schedule
Competitive Compensation

Pay Range: $83,250 to $132,150 annually
