Position Summary
High Point University Athletics is seeking a motivated, creative, and detail-oriented Athletics Communications Assistant to support the promotion and storytelling efforts of the Panthers’ NCAA Division I athletics programs. This part-time position will focus heavily on writing, photography, videography, and digital content management, while assisting with daily communications operations and game day coverage. The successful candidate will help enhance the visibility and brand of HPU Athletics through engaging multimedia content and strategic communications initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities
Writing & Content Creation (Primary Focus)

Write and edit press releases, game recaps, feature stories, student-athlete spotlights, and athletics-related news content.

Produce timely and accurate content for the HPU Athletics website, including game previews, recaps, roster updates, and historical information.

Assist in compiling and editing media guides, record books, and postseason materials.

Create written content that supports HPU Athletics social media initiatives and marketing campaigns.

Ensure all written materials reflect High Point University brand standards and NCAA, Big South Conference, and institutional policies.

Photography

Capture high-quality action and feature photography at competitions, practices, and athletics events.

Edit and distribute photography for use across digital, social media, and print platforms.

Maintain and organize HPU Athletics photo archives.

Collaborate with communications, marketing, and coaching staffs to fulfill visual content needs.

Videography & Multimedia Production

Shoot and edit video content including highlights, promotional features, student-athlete storytelling pieces, and recruiting support content.

Assist in creating behind-the-scenes and fan engagement content for digital and social media distribution.

Support video production needs for athletics events and special initiatives.

Website & Digital Content Management

Assist with content updates and maintenance of the HPU Athletics website through the SIDEARM Sports platform .

Upload stories, statistics, multimedia content, and roster updates to ensure accurate and timely website information.

Support website optimization through proper tagging, organization, and multimedia integration.

Game Day & Event Operations

Assist with media relations and communications operations during home athletic events.

Provide statistics support, press box operations, and postgame content distribution.

Coordinate photography and video coverage for assigned sports.

Assist with hosting media and supporting championship or special event operations.

Additional Duties

Assist with social media content creation and scheduling.

Support special projects, department initiatives, and championship hosting responsibilities.

Maintain knowledge of NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations.

Perform other duties as assigned by athletics communications leadership.

Qualifications
Education

Bachelor’s degree or current pursuit of a degree in Communications, Journalism, Sports Media, Digital Media, or a related field preferred.

Experience & Skills

Demonstrated strong writing, editing, and storytelling ability.

Experience in sports photography and photo editing software such as Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop.

Experience shooting and editing video using Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar software.

Experience working with or familiarity with the SIDEARM Sports website platform preferred.

Knowledge of social media platforms and digital content strategies.

Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.

Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and occasional holidays based on athletics schedules.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative athletics environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working in collegiate athletics communications or sports media.

Familiarity with NCAA statistics programs and live stat software.

Basic graphic design knowledge is a plus.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods during athletics events.

Ability to lift and transport photography and video equipment.

Salary: $12,000-$15,000 (10-month position)
