Overview









The Sheet Metal Fabricator plans, layouts, fabricates, assembles, installs and repairs sheet metal parts for a variety of aircraft and components.















Responsibilities









    Possesses a high level of attention to detail and workmanship to fabricate and assemble components while holding key critical dimensional tolerances
  • Proficient in set-up and operation of fabricating machines, such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers, to cut, bend, block and form, or straighten materials
  • Understands how to lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on material applying knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns of product/parts
  • Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, and smooths surfaces, using hand tools and portable power tools
  • Reviews, reads and understands military technical manuals, technical orders, modification work orders, blue prints, sketches and product specifications to determine sequence, method of fabrication, assembly and installation.
  • Complies with safety rules and procedures and uses protective equipment as required; remains alert for unsafe conditions














Qualifications









Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Experience:

  • 0-2 years required; shall have knowledge of simplistic tasks associated with the fabrication and assembly of electronic and mechanical hardware assemblies
  • 3 years' experience preferred; five years preferred in planning, layout and building to blueprints, or product specifications
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, including cutting, bending, welding, and assembly techniques
