JOB SUMMARY
The role of Graphic Technician is vital to the success of folding carton print manufacturing at GPI. The Graphic Technician is the graphics manufacturing expert who handles graphic receivables including customer proofs, files and information. The responsibilities of the role entail working with major internationally known brands to ensure that their graphics adhere to print standards. The Graphic Technician uses production software to inspect and construct plating files used for offset press production.

To be successful in this role, the Graphic Technician must be able to follow and deliver on daily plant production schedules. This includes using database systems and graphic software tools to coordinate the staging, inspection and shipping of graphic related print materials to the Vancouver and Gresham plants. The Graphic Technician has the responsibility of processing platesetter‑ready files per order specification. The work provided must be accurate, timely and done with pride. The role also requires a collaborative approach and professional interactions with other GPI business units, customer suppliers, manufacturing plants and Graphic Services department peers. The ability to work independently and to be accountable are also essential for this role.

Knowledge base
The ideal candidate will possess a graphic production knowledgebase with strong understanding of digital artwork, proofing concepts, CMYK, spot color inks, CAD structural files, along with cause‑and‑effect scenarios in a print production environment. A strong understanding of computer concepts, graphic arts, digital imaging and the ability to manipulate graphic files are paramount for success in this position. The ideal candidate would have a working understanding of industry specifications and best practices for graphic reproduction, such as: G7, FTA, IDEAlliance, CxF & PDF.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Receive, prepare, process, inspect and ship graphic production materials based on the needs of GPI

Use industry related graphics software to process materials, including: Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel, EyeC Proofiler, Kodak Prinergy

Communicate with graphic suppliers, department peers and Customer Advocates to secure approved graphic materials (using a face‑to‑face approach where applicable as well as telephone skills & email skills)

Communicate with all GPI stakeholders to pass along production materials and information for the manufacturing of those materials

Maintain, update and capture job history in corporate ERP system (SAP) and department material databases

Perform job graphic production and process plant orders as they are made available

Monitor and maintain plant production schedules; communicate delivery timing and escalate any issues with supervisor and plant

Handling and reading of proofs and associated electronic files and imposition in order to send a working file for plating at the printing facility

Process daily quota of required jobs

Use Kodak workflow software to build print production ready layout files and generate proofing files for quality inspection

Follow prescribed industry specifications related to 4 color process printing, color management profiles and related ISO print standards

Coordinate Plant and Graphic Services department workflow task

Provide point‑of‑contact for plant troubleshooting

Support new graphics onboarding

Maintain and coordinate a department core‑critical workflow task which supports the operations of the department.

Act as a stakeholder responsible for the success of a department operation

Standardize complex workflow tasks and assists others in the pursuit of excellence.

Work with a continuous improvement mindset and can coach and train others when called upon

Act as a beacon of knowledge for others so that they learn from the positive work ethic and attributes that are associated with the core values of GPI

Office daily roles and responsibilities

Processing of internal graphic project tasks and requests as necessary

Filing of materials, replacing of printer paper and ink cartridges, cleaning of common areas and general maintenance of department equipment

Other job duties as assigned

Safe Quality Food Responsibilities for all employees

Follow all Plant rules, Processes, Hygiene, and Allergens procedures, related to production of Safe Quality Foods.

Report to person of authority to record any potentially unsafe conditions which may result in unsafe foods or noncompliance to SQF related procedures.

Participate in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, SQF audits, validation, and verification activities) as required.

Follow all procedures related to producing Safe Quality Foods (SQF).

Report any potentially unsafe SQF conditions or customer complaints to a person of authority to record and/or correct the situation.

Required Skills

Good understanding of applicable graphics software and PC computer hardware.

Demonstrated functional/technical knowledge and skills to perform tasks at a high level.

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, production workflow software and handheld measurement devices.

Excellent communication skills both written and oral; ability to facilitate agreeable outcomes among customers, suppliers, and GPI interests.

Must have the ability to lift and carry packages and graphic arts supplies.

Required Experience

Education – Minimum BA degree or a minimum of 5 years related printing or converting work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay Range
$51,520.00 - $64,400.00
