Position Overview:
The California Botanic Garden is pleased to announce a botanical illustration internship opportunity for the summer of 2026. This on-site internship is open to early career illustrators interested in developing illustration techniques related to botanical specimens. Working with several Garden scientists and staff, the intern will have opportunities to work on various research projects, including, but not limited to:
illustrations for publications of plant species new to science
rare plant species central to conservation research
trait evolution
education
outreach
The intern will have access to the Garden’s five collections (herbarium, library, archives, living collection, and seed collection) and labs as resources for illustration. Opportunities for the successful applicant to participate in the Garden’s Summer Applied Plant Conservation Internship activities, such as workshops and presentations, will also be encouraged.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate should have some experience in illustration. Some training in botany or biology is preferred.
