Hodges Hall## Pay Grade:## Job Description:The LSU Manship School of Mass Communication and the Office of Student Media invites applications for a nine-month, non-tenure track position as a Professional-In-Residence for the Journalism area to begin in Fall 2026. This position will also serve as The Reveille advisor for the Office of Student Media. We seek a distinguished journalism practitioner to teach three courses per semester in the undergraduate core curriculum and/or courses in media writing, newspaper, journalism, in-depth reporting and other courses related to areas of expertise.The Office of Student Media provides news, information and entertainment that engages LSU students, faculty, staff, alumni and others interested in the LSU community and provides student employees with practical experience managing and producing content for media platforms. We are committed to the highest standards of student journalism. The Reveille is LSU’s one and only student-run and editorially independent newspaper since 1887.**Job Responsibilities:**Teach three undergraduate courses per semester. Participate in service activities in support of the Manship School and the Office of Student Media. 75%Reveille Advisor: Serve as the professional editorial content advisor to The Reveille supporting leadership development, team management, and long-term planning. Advise students in the production of high-quality, ambitious content (reporting, writing, editing, design, photography, video and interactive storytelling) as well as audience engagement via social media and audience analytics. Responsible for assessing the performance of these student journalists by providing regular critiques of their work. The Reveille employs approximately 70 student workers each semester who work as news, sports and entertainment reporters, columnists, digital editors, copy editors, designers and photographers. 25%**Minimum Qualifications:**Master's degree in mass communication, journalism or related field; 5+ years of experience.***Degree Substitute***: *Candidates with significant professional experience who do not currently possess the required degree may still be considered.**Bachelor's degree in mass communication, journalism or related field with professional work-related experience that clearly documents the qualifications to teach the course; 10 or more years of experience.***Additional Requirements:**FERPA -As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency.
