RF Design Engineer
Citra Space Corporation, Colorado Springs, CO, United States
Job Description: RF & Antenna Design Engineer
In this role, you will develop a multi-band system for passive RF satellite tracking. These sensors will be deployed around the globe and allow precision tracking of satellite emitters in all orbital regimes and in all weather.
Responsibilities
Design and Development: Design multi-band antenna systems for passive satellite tracking. Develop RF front-end architectures
System Integration: Own the signal path from antenna aperture to digitizer input. Develop link budgets, requirements, and validate RF front-end performance
Prototyping and Simulation: Use EM simulation tools to design, optimize, and iterate on antenna geometries and collaborate with fabrication staff to realize designs
Testing and Validation: Conduct rigorous testing of RF systems to validate performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system reliability
Documentation: Create detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and performance reports
Innovation: Research and implement cutting‑edge RF technologies to improve satellite tracking capabilities
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Experience: 5–8 years of professional experience in RF engineering, with a focus on designing and integrating multi‑band RF systems
Antenna Design: Demonstrated experience designing and simulating antennas, including radiation pattern analysis, impedance matching, and feed network design
Front‑end Design: Experience specifying and integrating receive‑chain components including LNAs, bandpass filters, and matching networks
Tools and Software: Proficiency with RF design tools (e.g., HFSS, CST Studio) and test equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, network analyzers)
Communication Skills: Ability to document technical designs clearly and present findings effectively to stakeholders
Teamwork: Proven ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary engineering teams
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with space domain awareness (SDA) applications or satellite communication technologies
Familiarity with reflectarrays is a plus
Experience with RF PCB design and layout is a plus
Experience with UHF, L-, S-, X-, C- and/or Ku‑Band systems is a plus
As an early engineering hire, you’ll have direct influence over the sensor architecture deployed across our global network. You’ll contribute to advancements in satellite tracking technology while working on state‑of‑the‑art multi‑band RF systems that support critical space missions.
This position requires compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) to meet the requirements of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
