Summary
Creates a developmentally appropriate library/media/information technology program that promotes learning and personal growth; motivates students to develop skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to provide a strong foundation for learning, as outlined in our district's stated Ends Policy. Responsible for establishing effective relationships with students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members to enhance learning opportunities. Subscribes to and applies the principles of Multi‑Tier System of Supports (MTSS) for the benefit of student and employee development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Serves as a Teacher/Instructional Partner: designs, teaches, and assesses learning opportunities that include inquiry, critical thinking, and multiple literacies to prepare learners for college and career readiness.

Collaborates with other teachers as an instructional partner in learning opportunities.

Promotes, engages, and motivates students to become lifelong learners through reading for pleasure, academic advancement, and exploration of diverse genres.

Actively seeks opportunities for technology use in learning and models its integration in teaching.

Serves as an Information Specialist: develops, maintains, and promotes the district’s collection of resources appropriate to curriculum and teaching styles.

Cooperates and networks with other librarians, libraries, and agencies to provide access to educational and technology resources outside the district.

Understands and promotes ethical use of information, including copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property.

Evaluates, promotes, and uses emerging technologies to support teaching and learning, connects the school with the global learning community, and provides equal access to library services.

Collaborates with ITE and other School Librarians to adopt research‑based best practices that promote information resource use and technology throughout the district.

Serves as an Instructional Leader: advocates for equitable access to information for all learners in the community.

Serves on school and district decision‑making teams as requested.

Measures the library/media program according to school, state, and national standards.

Creates a resource‑rich physical and virtual environment conducive to active participation.

Plans and provides professional development for colleagues as required.

Researches current professional practices and emerging technologies.

Remains current on emerging trends and best practices through active memberships and attendance at training.

Advocates for the school library program and its role in the educational community.

Serves as a Program Administrator: creates and maintains a safe, inviting learning environment.

Establishes protocols for selection, acquisition, circulation, and resource sharing of materials.

Develops library program goals aligned with school and district continuous improvement plans.

Prepares and administers the library program budget.

Manages resources and facilities for continuous improvement of the program.

Participates in recruiting, hiring, and training of library assistants, students, and volunteer staff when needed.

Gathers and analyzes data to improve instruction and demonstrate correlations with student achievement.

Acquires and demonstrates knowledge of current trends in library science, education, and information technology.

Attends conferences, workshops, and other learning activities.

Performs any other related duties as assigned.

General Responsibilities
Under the direction of the school administration. May oversee the work and training of Library/Media Technicians, assigned staff, students, and volunteers. Monitors student discipline through classroom management programs such as PBIS. Abides by district requirements and board policies. Maintains regular attendance and demonstrates commitment to diversity, sustainability, and customer service.

Education and Experience
Education and/or Experience: Master’s Degree from an American Library Association‑accredited program or 18 graduate credits from a School Library Media Studies program (or equivalent) including a practicum. A minimum of three years of related experience is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Vermont Teaching License with School Librarian endorsement.

Other Skills and Abilities
Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs; plan and implement lessons aligned with school and district objectives and student needs; establish relationships with students, peers, and parents; keep current with technology trends and utilize tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive, Destiny Library Catalog, student information systems, and e‑mail.
