Position Summary
Report to the Head of Reference and Faculty Services and serve as a member of the law library’s reference team. This librarian supports faculty, students, and alumni by providing complex legal research assistance, staffing the reference desk (in‑person, email, chat), creating and maintaining LibGuides, and participating in collection development and student outreach. The role includes planning library events and displays and offers opportunities for growth in teaching workshops and instructional design.
Position Responsibilities
Provide reference service across multiple channels, including in‑person, phone, email, text, chat and other emerging technologies.
Assist students and faculty with sophisticated legal research questions.
Create and maintain LibGuides and other instructional materials.
Select library materials for acquisition (physical and electronic monographs, serials, databases, websites).
Monitor library expenditures, develop approval plans, and implement electronic reserves services.
Configure course syllabi, interface with faculty about course materials and copyright restrictions, and make reserve materials accessible.
Update and maintain course reserves pages.
Perform cataloging and metadata services for physical and electronic materials; train staff; ensure OPAC integrity.
Plan utilization of library space, facilities, and projects.
Stay current with library profession developments, copyright regulations, research trends, and scholarly communication; promote new technologies.
Engage in research and professional activities such as publication, lectures, and participation in library organizations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
MLS or equivalent degree.
At least two years of reference experience.
Preferred
Legal research experience (Bloomberg Law, Lexis, Westlaw).
Collection development experience (print and digital materials).
Creation of instructional videos.
Experience with generative AI in the research process.
J.D. or equivalent.
Skills & Competencies

High accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.

Effective communication skills (listening, speaking, writing).
Salary Range
$31.76 - $32.41 per hour
