Job Summary
The Reference Services Librarian's principal responsibilities are providing research assistance and information literacy instruction to students, faculty, and staff at the Georgia Gwinnett College's Daniel J. Kaufman Library and Learning Center. The Reference Services Librarian reports to the Head of Research Services. This position is part-time (19 hours per week maximum) and includes evening and weekend hours.
Responsibilities
Provide individual research assistance to users through a variety of formats including walk‑in, phone, chat, e‑mail, and scheduled consultations, both face‑to‑face and virtual.
Provide user education at point‑of‑use for electronic and print resources, including how to locate materials and evaluate them for quality, credibility, authoritativeness, and reliability.
Participate in evening and weekend research assistance provision.
Contribute to collection development by suggesting new resources and identifying materials for weeding based on subject content, date, and usage.
Participate in information literacy instructional activities in both face‑to‑face and virtual environments.
Participate in the creation of learning materials in both print and digital formats, promoting information literacy as well as resource and service instruction.
May serve as a library liaison to specific discipline areas.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
ALA‑accredited master's degree in library or information science, or current enrollment in an ALA‑accredited master's program.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in the use of instructional technology and learning management systems.
Demonstrated experience with electronic and print information resources from a variety of vendors.
Demonstrated evidence of experience in providing information literacy instruction.
Salary
$20.25 per hour (salary offer dependent on experience, qualifications, internal equity considerations, budget availability, and salary administration guidelines).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong public service orientation, including customer service experience, written and oral communication skills.
Knowledge and experience with technology, including reference software and Springshare’s suite of software.
Professional knowledge of trends and issues in reference and instruction.
