How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:

Carilion Clinic is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our Adult Reconstruction Orthopedics team. This clinical role supports orthopedic surgeons specializing in hip and knee arthroplasty and provides care across the continuum, including clinic, virtual, and perioperative settings.

Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive evaluations of patients with hip and knee arthritis and related conditions
Assist with preoperative optimization and postoperative management
Provide inpatient care, including daily rounds, consults, admissions, and discharges
Serve as first assist in the operating room (as applicable)
Perform procedures such as joint injections, aspirations, and wound care
Educate patients and families on surgical and non-surgical treatment plans
Collaborate with surgeons, nursing staff, rehabilitation services, and care coordination teams
Document accurately and efficiently within the electronic medical record

Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
Current Virginia licensure (or eligibility)
National board certification required (AANP, ANCC, or NCCPA)
Prior orthopedic, surgical, or adult reconstruction experience preferred
Strong clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills

MSK Ultrasound
Familiarity with perioperative and enhanced recovery pathways

What We Require:

Education:

Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner Program or Accredited Physician Assistant Program.

Experience:

Minimum of three 3 years of clinical experience preferred. Additional experience may be required for some specialties.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration:

License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Eligible for prescriptive authority in accordance with State regulations and as authorized by the Virginia Boards of Nursing and Medicine.

Life Support:

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NPR, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

Other Minimum Qualifications:

Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of Carilion Clinic, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Capable of meeting credentialing or job function requirements as needed based on the requirements of the practice and of managed care payors and insurers. Qualifies for malpractice insurance and is accepted by Carilion Clinic's malpractice insurance carrier. Able to work collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers. Demonstrates good written and oral communication skills. Computer literacy required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
