The Library Assistant (LA) is responsible for providing high-quality library services to users at the Suwanee Campus during evenings and weekends. This is a full-time, in-person position, not eligible for remote work benefits.
Job duties include user support services in circulation and reference, monitoring the Library facility and equipment, troubleshooting for user access problems, and ensuring that problems encountered during evening and weekend periods are properly identified and reported to the library and other campus departments. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate records of circulation, reference, and support transactions, as well as acting as a supervisor in charge of student assistants during evening and weekend shifts.
SKILLS/ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent experience in a library setting
Experience: 1 - 2 years of library experience, or equivalent experience in a service setting
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work on a team and independently
Strong service orientation
Excellent computer skills
Comfortable with technology, including basic search strategy, using mobile devices, and basic troubleshooting skills
Detail oriented
Google Suite, Microsoft Word, and Excel proficiency
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Circulation Services
Charges, discharges, and renews library materials
Answers questions related to circulation and library collections
Interprets and communicates library policies on access to library facilities and use of collections
Handles patrons' special requests and concerns, forwarding to campus departments as needed
Troubleshoots problems with user access to library resources and notifies librarians as needed
Assigns work and monitors the performance of work-study students
Reference Support
Helps users find desired information
Advises users in the selection of appropriate resources
Assists with searches of databases and other library resources
Oversees the scheduling of library chat, including shift switches and staffing changes
Data Collection Support
Reviews and verifies the accuracy of library navigation and linking
Monitors, updates, and edits patron information within the integrated library system
Manages the circulation desk's email account and responds to questions, comments, or requests from patrons
Creates documentation regarding public service tasks and workflows
Interlibrary Loan Support
Acts as point-person for resource sharing processes on the Suwanee campus, including Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Processes ILL borrowing and lending requests as needed to ensure prompt document delivery
Provides support in researching and investigating outstanding ILL transactions
Library Marketing Support
Participates on the library's communication committee
Creates, edits, and updates marketing materials on various platforms
Designs book displays for the library
Miscellaneous
Provides support for administrative duties, including shipping and receiving the mail, ordering office supplies, and corresponding with multiple departments on campus
Serves on library committees as needed
Participates in special projects as required
Other duties as assigned
