Senior Library Technician, Whitman Public Library (Whitman)
The Whitman Public Library is seeking an experienced Senior Library Technician to assist library staff with a range of special projects. This position is an excellent opportunity for a library professional eager to share their expertise and contribute to the development of efficient technical services operations.
The Whitman Public Library is a small public library in a welcoming community approximately 40 minutes south of Boston. We welcome enthusiastic and friendly candidates to apply for the position of Senior Library Technician.
Responsibilities
Provides front-line customer service support and works at the service desk, as needed
Responsible for the receipt of library materials upon arrival
Maintains systems for preparing materials that prevents loss and adheres to contractual terms set forth by the publisher
Inputs and updates online records, including bibliographic records on an automated system
Trains all technical services staff in cataloging, database maintenance, and library materials processing
Prepares library material for shelving and circulation by creating call number labels, stamping and veering
Catalogs new materials across multiple formats
The ideal candidate must be comfortable working directly with the public. The ability to multitask and a willingness to perform hands‑on library work is essential to the position. The candidate must be a committed team player with a positive, can‑do attitude who works well with other staff members.
This position has a typical work week of 35 hours. Additional hours may be required from time to time. One evening shift per week and two Saturdays a month during the school year are required along with attendance at special meetings and programs. Other duties as assigned.

Position Type: Full-time. Temporary, with possibility of becoming permanent.
Start date: As soon as possible
End date: 18 months after start date unless otherwise agreed upon.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study required. Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a librarian, preferably in a public library setting or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Thorough knowledge of library cataloging and subject analysis.
A strong working knowledge of Evergreen Library Systems is highly preferred.
Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Judgement, tact, and experience working with the public.
Comfort with and knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in public library services.
