The Circulation Supervisor at Camarillo Public Library plays a key leadership role ensuring smooth, efficient, patron‑focused circulation operations. This position oversees daily functions of the circulation department, supervises and supports circulation staff, coordinates scheduling, and helps maintain a high standard of customer service for all library visitors.

Responsibilities include accurate handling of library materials and patron accounts, providing training, coaching, and ongoing support to staff, resolving patron questions, and monitoring circulation procedures and records for accuracy and consistency.

Employment Type: Full‑time, Non‑Exempt, Hourly

Hours per Week: 40

Pay Rate: $18.50 per hour

Primary Responsibilities

Provides customer service to patrons by greeting and assisting patrons in all areas of the library.

Supervises junior Library Associates, including managing performance, evaluation, interview/hiring, training and approving timesheets.

Works closely with Librarians and library management to plan, implement and promote programming activities.

Processes newly acquired library materials, including all identifying stamps, labels, RIDF and covers.

Informs library patrons of rules of conduct as necessary, and enforces those rules when appropriate.

Maintains circulation records and performs routine circulation duties as needed.

Assists with library opening and closing procedures.

Supports reference desks in assisting patrons with questions.

Utilizes effective listening and problem‑solving skills, excellent planning and organizational skills.

Embraces change and strategizes accordingly.

Follows all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

H.S. Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

3 years of customer service experience preferred.

1 year of supervisory experience preferred.

Proficiency with library systems and databases.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Multilingual speaking is a plus.

High proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Excellent customer service skills.

Ability to work a regular schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings, and weekends.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves.

Lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
