Job Overview
We are seeking a customer-focused Library Assistant to support daily library operations, including circulation, reference services, and program support for both youth and adult services. This role is responsible for assisting patrons, maintaining library materials, and supporting various library functions to ensure a welcoming and efficient environment.
The Library Assistant will provide assistance with library resources, technology, and programming while ensuring accurate material handling and excellent customer service. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work a flexible schedule. Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
Minimum of one (1) year of customer service or library experience (college education may substitute for experience)
Experience working directly with the public in a service-oriented environment
Experience handling transactions, cash, or point-of-service systems
Experience using computers, databases, or library systems
Experience assisting individuals with technology, including computers and applications
Experience organizing materials, records, or inventory
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience Preferences
Experience working in a public library or educational setting
Experience supporting youth or adult programming
Familiarity with library catalogs, databases, and circulation systems
Experience creating displays, promotional materials, or community outreach content
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed
Ability to perform tasks involving bending, kneeling, and reaching
Ability to push carts, shelve books, and handle library materials
Education Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Education Preferences
Some college coursework in Library Science, Education, or a related field
