Social Media and Library Program Coordinator: Choctaw County Library
Position: Social Media and Library Program Coordinator – Full time, 37 hours/wk
Available: March 2026
Reports to: Library Director
Pay: $14.00 per hour; includes health and life insurance, medical and personal leave, and participation in the Mississippi Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).
The Program Coordinator performs tasks which contribute to the library’s mission of public service. The Program Coordinator is responsible for all library program planning and execution. This non-professional position may be full or part-time, as budgets allow, and answers to the CCLS Director.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Ability to read, write, and speak standard English.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with the Library Director and library staff.
Ability to use, and assist others to use the Internet, library online databases, and word processing software.
Ability to plan, execute, and evaluate programs or events.
Physical exertion is required to lift office supplies and library materials from overhead and from the floor, and to move, shelve and retrieve library materials from high and low settings. Ability to lift at least 25 pounds, push carts, shelve and shift books.
QUALIFICATIONS
The following minimum requirements are established for the Library positions:
High school diploma or GED degree required, two years of college preferred.
Thorough understanding of and ability to use the English language, including oral and written instructions.
Experience in the operation of computers and other office equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Program Coordinator is responsible for the following activities:
Design and plan programs and special events for all ages.
Advertise programs to increase participation via newspaper, social media, flyers, etc.
Strengthen community partnerships by using outreach to promote programming.
Maintains program records, program budget expenditures and other statistical data for future program planning, strategic plan tracking, and annual reporting.
Perform other library duties as needed including:
Routine circulation and clerical functions using the Automated Circulation System.
Issue library cards, collect fines and copy fees, and make change.
Assist Patrons, whether in person or over the phone, with library resources, computers, databases, word-processing software, reference services, photocopy machine, fax machine, and basic computer access and operation.
Participate in collection development by selection, maintenance, and weeding.
Shelve materials and cover departmental positions for breaks, lunches, and other employees as assigned.
Assist other staff members as assigned.
May be required to work some evenings and weekends as assigned.
Perform any other assigned duties and library upkeep, including housekeeping tasks such as dusting, emptying trash, shifting shelves, etc. as directed.
