Job Description
Title: Instructional Assistant – Media
Qualifications:
High school diploma.
Working knowledge of computers and general office machines.
Must be pleasant, courteous, punctual, responsible and neat in appearance.
Demonstrate the ability to work with teachers, administrators, co‑workers, and students.
Demonstrate competency in oral and written communication skills.
Must have minimum skills in use of card catalog and reference materials and demonstrate the ability to learn and manage an automated circulation system.
Must be self‑directed in performing daily duties.
Physical requirements as set forth in attached Physical Job Description.

Reports To: Media Specialist and/or Site Principal
Evaluated By: Site Principal with input from Media Specialist
Terms of Employment: 176 contract days. Salary to be determined as per ESPO Master Contract.
Job Goal: To assist teachers and students in the effective use of the media center as a learning resource.
Performance Responsibilities
Prepares, processes and receives orders and materials.
Maintains records and inventories.
Types correspondence, reports and bibliographies.
Locates and retrieves materials and equipment for users and assists them in using media center resources.
Assists in the production of materials.
Assists in the operation and minor repair of equipment and in the maintenance and repair of materials.
Shelves, files and duplicates materials for the site media center director.
Checks lists and bibliographies to determine availability of materials in center.
Performs circulation tasks such as charging, discharging, reserving, scheduling and delivering materials and equipment.
Responds to the needs and interests of students under the supervision of the site media center director.
Carries out special projects as needed in the media center.
Coordinates technical efforts of student library assistants under the direction of LMC Director.
Performs other duties as deemed appropriate by the supervisor and/or principal.
Job Title: Instructional Assistant (All Sites)
Note: In the terms of an 8 hour workday, “Occasionally” equals 1% - 33%; “Frequently” equals 34% - 66%; “Continuously” equals 67% - 100%.
Physical Demands: Sit up to 4 or more hours per day; Stand up to 4 or more hours per day; Walk up to 4 hours per day; Bend/Stoop occasionally; Squat occasionally; Crawl occasionally; Climb occasionally; Reach above shoulder occasionally; Crouch occasionally; Kneel occasionally; Balance occasionally; Push/Pull occasionally.
Carrying/Lifting Requirements: up to 10 lbs frequently; 11‑24 lbs occasionally; 25‑34 lbs occasionally; 35‑50 lbs occasionally; 51‑74 lbs occasionally with assistance; 75 lbs and up occasionally with assistance.
Other Physical Requirements: Working on unprotected heights: no; Being around moving machinery: yes; Exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity: yes; Driving automotive equipment: no; Exposure to dust, fumes and gases: no.
