Summary
Responsible for providing interlibrary loan (ILL) processing, copy cataloging and processing of library materials assistance to internal and external customers.
Essential Functions
Physically process library materials to meet established guidelines.
Resolve routine processing and record problems submitted by library staff.
Provide backup assistance for other Technical Services processes.
Evaluate incoming material for processing errors; notify leadership if unable to correct errors.
Print daily holds list and pull items for rush workflow.
Export bibliographic and/or item record files from vendor or bibliographic utility into the integrated library system (ILS).
Review, evaluate, and edit records in the ILS to meet established guidelines, as appropriate.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent and at least two (2) years of experience in library or related field.
OR any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will enable successful performance of the essential functions of the job.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws and regulations, and City of Denton policies and procedures.
Moderate problem‑solving skills: identify moderate‑to‑complex problems and develop, evaluate options, and implement solutions.
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and other software systems.
Interpersonal skills: use tact, patience, and courtesy.
Exceptional service to internal and external customers.
Independently manage multiple tasks and balance competing priorities with attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment.
Perform detailed, repetitive manual tasks.
Learn and use an integrated library system.
Learn and apply the Dewey Decimal System.
Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
Handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and confidentiality.
Communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
Be flexible and adaptable to changing work environments to accomplish needed activities.
Conditions of Employment
Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, and social security number verification.
Must pass a physical examination.
Safety and Working Conditions
Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
Follow established safety procedures, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment per safety procedures.
Report unsafe conditions promptly.
Safety Sensitive (subject to random drug testing): Yes.
Tools/Equipment used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals.
Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, twisting, stooping below knee level, reaching above shoulder level.
Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and using a mouse.
Hearing and Vision: Prolonged listening and viewing information to identify requested items.
Lifting: No more than 50 pounds; carrying up to 25 pounds.
Environment: Office and library setting; occasionally irregular and/or prolonged hours.
Travel: Travel to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance required; must work rotating schedule including nights and weekends, and overtime as required.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions.
