What You’ll Do
Deliver primary source library instruction, including meeting with instructors, selecting materials, and leading sessions.
Assist with public programming and exhibitions, including curating a full exhibition.
Respond to reference queries from a wide range of users, both in person and remotely.
Support collection development initiatives and special projects.
Work a regular weekly shift in the Rubenstein Library Reading Room.
Move library materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
Occasionally work in environments where dust or mold may be present.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
BA/BS and current enrollment in an accredited archival studies, public history, or information/library science graduate program.
Interest in the history of medicine.
Strong analytical, organizational, and writing skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Commitment to exceptional customer service and an inclusive culture.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a special collections setting or related coursework.
This internship is part-time (15 hours/week) from August 2026–May 2027 at a hiring rate of $18/hour. The intern will report to the Curator of the Josiah Charles Trent History of Medicine Collections. Requisition number: 267473.
Anticipated Pay Range
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.00 to USD $22.84.
