Demonstrate effective time management.
Departmental in-service education program requirements.
Evaluate and provide music therapy program to assigned classrooms. Conduct music sessions which are appropriate to the developmental and social-emotional level of the assigned students. Must incorporate movement, instruments, and song.

STANDARD 1 Professional Duties

Implement a music curriculum based on students’ developmental needs.
Provide music therapy to assigned classes/individual students to foster music appreciation.
Select and adapt music consistent with student’s age, culture and preferences as well as musical instruments and equipment consistent with strengths and needs of the student.
Encourage students to take part in the session and support them by responding musically.
Encourage students to use musical instruments, such as percussion and voice, to express themselves.
Help students explore the world of sound and to create a musical language of their own.
Improvise with music as a reaction to what the student is communicating.
Design, construct, alter, and provide students with therapy to promote maximum independence.
Lead and conduct school chorus (Brookville site only).
Complete lesson plans and goals for classrooms monthly.
Reports progress for each assigned classroom quarterly.
Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the music therapy program and implement changes based on the findings.
Consult with Speech Therapists to foster individual speech goals through music media.
Consult with Behaviorists to reinforce desired behavioral goals through music media.
Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level, interests, and needs of the students.
Remain current in all areas of children/adolescent pop culture music trends.
Demonstrate knowledge of job responsibilities.
Develop and implement appropriate strategies for students to participate in music activities.
Complete and maintain all required paperwork in a timely and appropriate manner.
Maintain appropriate professional standards in interactions with families.
Demonstrate the ability to recognize problems that occur and report them immediately.
Demonstrate flexibility and is readily adaptable to change.
Demonstrate effective time management.
Implement behavior intervention plans during music sessions on individualized students.
Provide lunch coverage and assist with bussing as required by Supervisor or Administrator.
Perform additional related duties, including classroom coverage as requested by Supervisor or Administrator.

STANDARD 2 Environment Management

Responsible for the health and safety of children during music classes.
Maintain a healthy, safe and attractive environment.
Oversee and manage classroom aides during push-in music classes.

STANDARD 3 Professional Behavior

Cooperate and conduct self in manner appropriate to school education setting.
Adhere to program specific policies and procedures.
Participate in program-wide activities and act in an appropriate manner
Participate in activities and seek support to enhance knowledge in areas pertinent to students in the school.

STANDARD 4 Professional Development

Attend and participate in required in-services and staff development in an appropriate manner.
Attend and participate in supervision and implement recommendations appropriately.
Collaborate with each student’s clinical service providers to ensure a comprehensive program for each student.

STANDARD 5 Adhere to general policies of the organization/regulators including

Code of Ethical Conduct
Emergency/disaster preparedness protocols.
Departmental in-service education program requirements.
Fire/Safety prevention protocols.
Policies and procedures (attendance, punctuality, appearance, professional attitude, etc.)
Quality improvement activities.
Job related self-development education activities.
Infection control practices and procedures.
Regulatory requirements and annual physical examination and Mantoux testing.

STANDARD 6 Performs other related duties, as required

Demonstrate understanding of the needs of students and visitors for each specific age group.
Address safety and psychological needs of the special age groups, as appropriate, in the performance of work activities.
Address the needs of special groups, hearing impaired, physically challenged and various issues relating to the program and facility.
Maintain child, family and employee confidentiality.
Is consistently courteous and considerate in person, on the telephone, and in interactions with children and others such as family, visitors, venders, and other employees.
Exhibit the “At Your Service” attitude, i.e. smiles, uses positive eye contact, and is friendly, open and approachable.
Respond quickly to student and/or parent/guardian’s request, refers to appropriate member of the care team, if necessary, and informs supervisor of actions taken.

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Music Therapy or Creative Arts Master’s degree required.
Must be a certified Music Therapist or Licensed Creative Arts Therapist with a minimum of one (1) year related experience working with the developmentally disabled population. Working knowledge of music curriculum/activities appropriate in a school setting. Must have a working knowledge of assessment and treatment activities appropriate for the developmental and social level of the assigned students.

Physical Demands

Mobility Ability to move about the school campus and community settings, including classrooms, offices, and vocational sites., including standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
Physical May occasionally be required to lift and carry instructional materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs), ability to assist students with mobility needs if required.
Manual Dexterity Frequent use of hands and fingers for writing, typing, and handling educational devices, instructional materials, assistive technology and computers.
Visual and auditory ability Must possess sufficient vision and hearing to monitor student activities, observe student performance and respond to needs including safety in a timely manner.
Environment Work is performed in a school setting and may include community-based environments.
