Elementary Music Teacher
Reports: Building Principal

PURPOSE STATEMENT
To create a flexible instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth in addition to establishing effective rapport with students assigned to the classroom.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teach music appreciation and fundamentals of music through explorations in instrumental music.
Skilled in planning instruction incorporating elements of music appropriate to the developmental levels of students.
Actively involves students in meaningful activities designed to teach elements of music.
Provides experience-based instruction involving such approaches as playing, listening, moving, creating and performing.
Plans, prepares and presents music programs at varying grade levels during the school year.
Able to teach in a manner that causes students to experience the joy of music and to value the place of music in their lives.
Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
Controls the inventory and stage of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments to and requests repairs of instruments.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during classes. Group rehearsals and musical performances while ensuring that students enjoy music.
Selects and requisitions books, instruments, instructional materials and equipment; maintains required inventory records.
Communicates with parents, other teachers, the counselor and the administration regarding student progress.
Works cooperatively with other teachers to integrate music with other curricular areas.
Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district and in selected professional growth activities related to music.
Knowledge of Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements as they relate to music.
Understands High/Middle school students and has the ability to adapt instructional strategies and classroom management and plans to meet their unique characteristics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or Doctorate from an accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE: Academic background and coursework in the discipline of the position to be filled. Successful teaching experience and effective work with elementary school-age students preferred.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement. Must maintain as current any certification or license listed herein and held at hire date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physically able to occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
Ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, and grasp as required to successfully perform all duties and requirements.
Ability to focus (adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus), clear vision at twenty (20) inches or less, and clear vision at twenty (20) feet or more.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Starting Date: 2026-2027 School Year (182 total contracted days)
Salary: $63,912 - $122,620 annual salary. Based on education and experience, Per OEA CBA - 2026-2027 Salary Schedule
