Manual Horizontal Lathe Machinist

Shift: 1st Shift - Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM
Pay Range: $25-$30/hour (based on experience)
Location: Milwaukee

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Manual Horizontal Lathe Machinist to join a growing team. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with manual machining, can consistently hold tight tolerances (0.001" or better), and thrives working independently with minimal supervision in a high-precision environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate a manual horizontal lathe to machine metal components to exact print specifications
• Perform complete machine setups, including tooling selection, alignment, and speed/feed adjustments
• Bore soft jaws and modify fixturing for unique setups
• Maintain tolerance requirements of 0.001" or tighter
• Inspect and verify parts using micrometers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments
• Read and interpret detailed blueprints and engineering drawings
• Collaborate with team leads, engineers, and quality personnel to troubleshoot machining challenges
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience operating a manual horizontal lathe in a precision machining environment
• Proven ability to consistently hold tight tolerances
• Strong blueprint reading skills
• Proficient with precision measuring tools
• Ability to independently complete setups and troubleshoot issues
• Must own personal tools, including indicators and general hand tools
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
• Reliable, motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
