Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator - City of Riddle

General Statement of Duties:

Operates wastewater treatment plant, sludge processing, equipment and associated biosolids management program. Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets SCADA meter and gauge readings; performs tests; maintains logs and records; performs routine maintenance. Acts as a relief operator for the water treatment plant and serves as the City’s designated supervisory wastewater system supervisor and Direct Responsible Charge (DRC) for wastewater treatment. Participates in the City’s rotational on-call schedule and responds to after-hours water and wastewater emergencies within required response times.

Supervision Received:

This position does not normally include supervisory responsibilities; however, the incumbent may occasionally supervise community service workers, trainees, and relief operators.

Typical Examples of Work:

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Inspect and monitor plant operations and equipment to ensure proper treatment.


2. Read meters, gauges and other monitoring equipment to determine processing requirements using the SCADA system.


3. Perform routine preventative and corrective maintenance of equipment, order parts and supplies as needed.


4. Collect samples and perform laboratory analysis, interpret results for process control and prepare records and reports as required.


5. May be required to sign off on all documents required by other agencies for the wastewater treatment plant operations and review with the Public Works Director in a timely manner for submittal to the appropriate agency.


6. Responds to emergency situations at water and wastewater treatment plants.


7. Perform building and grounds maintenance tasks.


8. Preform duties associated with the biosolids hauling process


9. Participate in a scheduled rotation providing after-hours on-call coverage for water, distribution, collection, and wastewater systems within the required response times, including weekends and holidays as assigned.

Desirable Qualifications for Employment:

A general knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of a modern Activated Sludge-Biological Nutrient Removal Wastewater Treatment. Familiarity with standard laboratory procedures and analysis. Knowledge of general safety hazards and precautions associated with the industry. Basic knowledge of plumbing, chemistry and hydraulics. Ability to prepare reports, records and statistical data. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Applicants should have moderate to intermediate computer skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Due to the nature of the organization, considerable time is spent indoors. The incumbent will be exposed to extreme weather and a variety of working conditions. Walking, bending, standing, and a limited amount of crawling and climbing are required.

Experience and Training:

Must have a High School Diploma or the equivalent GED. Must possess at least a Grade II Oregon Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification at the time of hire and obtain a Grade III Certification within 24 months of appointment. A Grade III Certification is required to serve as DRC and to progress to the top steps of the salary range.

This position is subject to after-hours on-call assignments on a rotational basis and incumbents must be able to respond to City facilities or job sites within 45 minutes when on call.

Compensation:

$5,231 - $8,113 per month DOE.
