Media Specialist - Surgery - Full Time 8 Hour Rotating Shift (Non-Exempt) (Union)
Apply to the University of Southern California for the Media Specialist in Surgery unit.
Location: Burbank, CA
Hourly rate: $34.50 – $58.65
Essential Duties
Assemble and operate microscopes, lasers, endoscopes, audio‑visual recording equipment, and other devices safely, efficiently, and effectively.
Perform preventive maintenance and make minor repairs and adjustments on equipment according to manufacturer recommendations.
Support staff by performing minor repairs to OR equipment, e.g., changing light bulbs and fuses.
Collaborate with Clinical Coordinators in the OR to assist with miscellaneous assignments such as case carts, retrieving equipment from OPSC, and facilitating the OR team.
Apply aseptic technique and follow policies for disinfecting or sterilizing endoscopes.
Support PI activities.
Plan and organize audio‑visual and other technical equipment and supplies for assigned cases to maximize efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Assist and educate new staff on AV equipment, Steris units, and endoscopy equipment.
Ensure security of all AV equipment.
Maintain and repair operating room tables.
Maintain documentation for sterilization and Steris equipment (scopes, etc.).
Assist with miscellaneous duties in the OR as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator.
Act as a team player, displaying a positive attitude and following policies, Title 22, and JCAHO standards.
Assist with planning and implementation of filming in the OR with outside companies as needed.
Contribute positively to overall customer service and patient satisfaction.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum two years of experience in a surgery or operating room setting.
Proficiency with audiovisual equipment.
Ability to work effectively with physicians, staff, and patients.
Excellent customer‑service behavior.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with audiovisual equipment in a healthcare setting.
Required Licenses/Certifications
Fire Life Safety Training (LA City). If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and renewed before expiration.
