Job Description
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Design and Technical Manager to join the delivery team of a large-scale, 9-floor hospital development. This is a complex, multidisciplinary project involving advanced healthcare infrastructure, high MEP integration, and international standards compliance.
Role Overview
The Design and Technical Manager will lead all detailed design coordination, technical governance, and engineering integration across the project lifecycle, from design through construction and commissioning, and as-built delivery for a landmark international-standard hospital project. This is a critical leadership role capable of integrating architectural, structural, MEP, and specialist healthcare systems into a cohesive, buildable solution, while ensuring alignment with schedule, cost, and regulatory requirements. This position serves as the key interface between consultants, contractors, and project management, ensuring design intent is effectively translated into execution on site without conflict, delay, or rework. The ideal candidate is a strong technical authority, a decisive leader, and a systems-driven professional with a proven track record of delivering complex projects successfully.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design Leadership and Strategy
Lead and manage the full design lifecycle from concept development through detailed design and construction documentation
Establish and implement design management strategies, standards, and workflow
Drive design excellence, innovation, and functionality while ensuring alignment with project objective
Champion value engineering initiatives to optimize cost, quality, and buildability
2. Technical Oversight and Governance
Provide expert technical leadership across all design disciplines (architectural, structural, MEP, and specialist systems)
Review, validate, and approve all design deliverables to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standard
Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, codes, and best practice
Identify technical risks and implement effective mitigation strategies
3. Design Coordination and Stakeholder Management
Lead coordination of multidisciplinary consultants, ensuring integration and consistency across all design packages
Act as the primary interface between consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholder
Facilitate design coordination meetings and drive resolution of design clashes and technical issue
Ensure clear communication of design intent to construction teams
4. Project Integration and Delivery
Align design outputs with construction methodologies, sequencing, and project schedules
Work closely with project management and site teams to ensure smooth transition from design to execution
Support procurement activities, including technical evaluations of contractor bids and vendor submissions
Monitor design progress against timelines and ensure timely delivery of all milestones
5. Quality Assurance and Compliance
Establish and enforce design quality standards and review processes
Ensure all technical documentation is accurate, complete, and audit-ready
Oversee change management processes related to design modifications
Maintain strict control over design documentation, revisions, and approvals
6. Reporting and Leadership
Provide regular updates to senior management on design progress, risks, and key decisions
Lead, mentor, and develop internal technical and design coordination teams
Foster a high-performance, accountable, and collaborative work environment
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred)
Minimum of 15 years' relevant experience, with a strong track record in design and technical management
Proven experience delivering large-scale, complex projects (construction, infrastructure, or healthcare projects highly preferred)
Strong knowledge of design coordination, construction processes, and project delivery lifecycle
Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams and external consultants
Proficiency in industry tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and project management software
Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, codes, and compliance requirements
