Overview
The Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City, Juvenile Division is seeking to fill a full-time paralegal position to support the “Curbing Auto-Theft Recidivism Soon” (CARS) team. The CARS team consists of a prosecutor, law clerk and paralegal. The team handles cases involving armed carjacking, carjacking, motor vehicle theft, driving without a license, all attempts and conspiracies of the listed charges, and any case that involves the Regional Auto-theft Taskforce (RATT). The CARS Paralegal provides legal and administrative support to the CARS team, as well as assists with the compiling of program data.
This is a renewable grant funded position dedicated to curbing auto-theft cases and is located at the Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center, 300 N. Gay Street, Baltimore, MD 21202. The hours are Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Responsibilities
Provide legal and administrative support to the CARS team;
Assist CARS prosecutor with all stages of case preparation and prosecution;
Research at the direction of the CARS prosecutor;
Draft and prepare a variety of legal documents and correspondences, including but not limited to victim and witness notifications, motions, and legal memoranda;
Prepare outgoing correspondence;
File maintenance including purging closed files;
Collect and maintain statistical data for CARS cases;
Assist in preparing quarterly reports per grant guidelines that include dispositions, dismissals, and special conditions of each CARS case;
Assist the Immediate Charging Unit with the investigation and charging of cases, making discovery requests as directed, and
Other duties as directed or delegated.
Requirements
Excellent organizational and time-management skills;
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to meet deadlines;
Must work well with a variety of individuals and be able to resolve issues professionally;
Intermediate skill level MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint;
MDEC experience preferred.
The applicant must pass a criminal background investigation, which includes fingerprinting.
Salary
Starting salary is $64,494 commensurate with experience.
