Work Model: Onsite (Mon-Fri)
Environment: 24/7 / 365 Manufacturing Plant
Facility: 100 employees | Union site - UAW Local #1073 | HR responsibility for 80 union employees
Reporting To
Group HR Manager
Scope
Supports plant leadership team and HR processes for union workforce
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Engagement
Maintain a strong "open door" employee relations culture
Build visibility and trust on the floor (active engagement with hourly teams)
Coordinate employee programs, community events, and workforce activities
Create and deliver internal employee communications
Champion Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives
Lead investigations and ensure consistent responses to:
Harassment/discrimination claims
Ethics hotline calls
EEOC/state charges
Coach/counsel supervisors and leadership on:
Discipline practices
Employee relations concerns
Performance issues and corrective actions
Labor / Union Relations
Administer and interpret the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
Support labor strategy development
Participate in contract negotiations
Handle union issues through:
Grievance resolution
Arbitration support
HR Business Partnership
Align HR initiatives with plant/business strategy
Identify and communicate business goals and how HR supports performance
Support annual plant goals through workforce planning and organizational support
Staffing, Onboarding & Workforce Planning
Drive hourly staffing end-to-end:
Sourcing strategy
Hiring coordination
Onboarding execution
Develop/support crew models and provide workforce data to leadership
Determine training needs and manage training logistics
Plan and support layoffs/curtailments when required
Compliance & HR Operations
Ensure compliance with federal/state employment regulations and JM policies
Lead and facilitate key HR cycles including:
Compensation planning
Economic packages
Open enrollment
Succession planning
Participate in company-wide HR projects across business units/geographies
Partner with EH&S to support safety performance improvements
May supervise HR Generalists or HR Services Specialists (as assigned)
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree + 5+ years HR experience
(OR no bachelor's degree with 10+ years HR experience)
Minimum 1 year HR experience in manufacturing or similar environment
Union/Labor Relations experience required
Strong working knowledge of:
Wage & hour
EEOC
FMLA / FLSA
OSHA basics
Strong investigation + discipline expertise
Strong communication skills (written & verbal) across all levels
Strong Excel skills
Ability to influence and drive decisions independently
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using HCM systems for HR operations (preferred: Workday HCM)
