SerVermont - Common Roots Communications VISTA

Overview The Communications & Storytelling Systems VISTA will redesign how Common Roots communicates its work to clearly connect farming, education, and food access programs to community impact for low‑income households. Common Roots’ mission is building a thriving local food system and healthy community through farming and nutrition education for all ages, where every person has equitable access to nourishing food they enjoy. This includes redesigning how programs are presented on the website, building seasonal campaigns tied to farm and food access programs, and developing systems to share stories across multiple channels. The VISTA will develop a coordinated communications system including website structure, content calendars, and tools to track engagement and impact, including simple dashboards and earned media outreach strategies. By strengthening how the organization communicates and connects with the community, this role will increase participation in food access programs, expand awareness, and reduce barriers that prevent low‑income households from accessing nutritious food. This role is well suited for someone interested in communications strategy, food systems, or nonprofit leadership who wants to build systems that create measurable community impact.

The VISTA will develop systems including website structure, audience segmentation, content calendars, and tools to track engagement and impact. Example deliverables include a redesigned website and communications dashboard. The VISTA will take ownership of building these systems and collaborate with a cohort, translating complex work into clear, compelling stories that drive action.
