Social Media Specialist (Provost Office, Institute for Governance and Civics)
Location: Tallahassee, FL. Regular, Full‑Time.
Responsibilities
Partner with Institute for Governance and Civics (IGC) team members to ideate and execute organic social media campaigns supporting various initiatives (e.g., events, speaking engagements, K‑12 education reform).
Plan and maintain a comprehensive content calendar across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter).
Develop, publish, and promote organic social media content; monitor daily activity and manage community engagement (comments, likes, shares) according to an existing protocol.
Grow the IGC social media footprint by creating and implementing audience‑growth strategies and strengthening engagement with current followers.
Identify content opportunities, design, and deploy email newsletters and ad‑hoc campaigns using email marketing platforms, analyze performance metrics, and recommend improvements.
Collaborate with the Associate Director and Director on event marketing strategies for on‑campus and statewide events; attend and support events as needed.
Regularly update and maintain IGC webpages to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with marketing goals; training in a CMS will be provided.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of related experience, or a high school diploma (or equivalent) and at least six years of related experience. Post‑high‑school education can substitute for experience on a comparable basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Deep understanding of major social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, X, YouTube) and ability to leverage them for audience engagement and growth.
Proficiency in content creation, including use of tools such as Canva or similar for visual media, and video production experience for engaging videos and reels.
Knowledge of email marketing strategies that support brand and engagement objectives.
Strong writing and communication skills—capable of conveying messages clearly and creatively across channels.
Proactive communicator who enjoys engaging diverse audiences, including students, parents, faculty, and prospective donors.
Additional Requirements
Successful completion of a criminal history background check.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to attend and support various events.
