
Clerk Typist I (Part-Time/Limited Benefit)

Clerical Support Position
Under general supervision of the Office Manager, this position provides responsible clerical support for the processing of criminal records, police reports, and inmate related transactions.
This is a part-time position working an average of 19.5 hours per week with limited benefits. The position is based at the Fillmore Complex in West Olive, Michigan, and may also require work at the Adult Correctional Facility.
Essential Job Functions
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Performs general administrative duties, including answering phones, routing calls, taking messages, and distributing mail.
Provides front-counter customer service, assisting the public and answering general questions in person and by phone, requiring general knowledge of the Sheriff's Office Operations and the Adult Correctional Facility.
Prepares and types letters, reports, and memoranda from dictation or other source materials.
Performs accurate data entry from police reports and related documents.
Maintains filing systems by organizing, retrieving, and updating case files, records, and other documents.
Operates standard office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, and scanners.
Records and maintains information in both paper and electronic filing systems.
Supports departmental staff with clerical tasks such as filing, preparing mailings, and document creation.
Completes and enters various departmental forms, including vehicle impounds, sex offender registry and firearm registrations.
Assists the public with fingerprinting services
Accepts cash payments on behalf of the department for a variety of public services.
Performs clerical tasks requiring familiarity with departmental terminology, procedures, and operations.
Processes paperwork and mail associated with inmates being housed in the Adult Correctional Facility.
Manages visitation schedules regarding inmates being housed in the Adult Correction Facility.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Training and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent is required. General office and computer experience preferred.

Computer literacy and good working knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet software.
Excellent typing skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Working knowledge of Ottawa County Sheriff's Office policy and procedures.
Flexibility and ability to multi-task due to continuous changes.
