About the Job
The University of Minnesota Duluth's Information Technology Systems and Services (ITSS) unit is seeking an experienced web developer to support the planning and deployment of campus‑wide web Drupal theme and module updates, work with departments at UMD on custom feature configurations and development, and to provide general support and troubleshooting to content editors. This position reports to the User Technology Manager and is a key member of the UMD web team, a partnership between ITSS and University Marketing and Public Relations (UMPR).

While this position utilizes a hybrid work modality, prospective applicants must be located either in the state of Minnesota or near the Wisconsin border within commuting distance of Duluth OR otherwise open to relocation.

This position is not eligible for H‑1B or Green Card sponsorship. It does not offer a STEM OPT training program.

Job Duties

Develop, build, and maintain Drupal websites, including site building with content types, fields, views, blocks, paragraphs, and layout builder.

Manage customized configuration of modules and settings for a multitude of web sites to maintain consistency of appearance and behavior across them.

Work in partnership with UMPR and other campus units to create and maintain accessible web content, including adhering to WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.

Utilize version control systems, such as Git and GitHub, in a collaborative development environment.

Maintain websites using common web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.

Develop responsive, mobile‑friendly websites that adhere to established web standards and best practices.

Write clean, reusable, and maintainable code while following established development standards and workflows.

Required Qualifications

BA/BS plus at least two years of relevant experience, or master’s degree.

Experience communicating with designers, content creators, project managers, and/or technical stakeholders.

Experience building and maintaining websites using a content manager and modules with an established design system.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience using web accessibility evaluation tools (e.g., Pope Tech or similar) to identify, track, and remediate accessibility issues.

Experience participating in usability, accessibility, and quality assurance reviews, and collaborating with UX, content, and design partners to resolve identified issues.

Experience with Drupal and/or subtheming and component‑based development, including reuse of templates, patterns, and shared components.

Experience writing and maintaining custom modules.

Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $75,000 per year - $90,000 per year; depending on education/qualifications/experience
