As we grow our Electric Power Delivery practice, Halff seeks experienced Senior Electric Distribution Design Engineers (PE) to join our San Antonio, Houston, or Dallas/Fort Worth, TX office locations. The candidate should have at least 8 years of experience designing distribution for overhead and underground lines for TNMP, and will design for co-ops, municipalities, or investor-owned utilities, including new lines, relocations, upgrades, and substation distribution takeoffs. The role offers opportunities to expand technical capabilities, mentor less experienced designers, and contribute to process improvements, with potential ownership in the firm.

What you will do

Prepare designs, construction packages, and bills of material for progressively complex distribution line projects and provide engineering support through the full project life cycle (concept through construction to as-builts).

Conduct on-site visits to determine routes, staking, right-of-way requirements, locates, and assess existing conditions for designs.

Serve as customer point-of-contact during the work management process; respond to inquiries and update tracking systems.

Create, edit, analyze, and implement gas facility data updates from sketches, as-builts, or mobile apps using TNMP data rules.

Attend preconstruction meetings and address issues during construction.

Perform electric power calculations to determine capacity and sizing of distribution materials and equipment.

Prepare mockups and designs as needed.

Perform QA/QC of distribution line designs and construction packages prepared by other designers.

Collaborate with Project Managers and cross-functional teams to meet deadlines and support engineering decisions.

Assist in developing distribution engineering design philosophies, standards, details, and specifications.

Pursue continuous improvements to project execution processes, safety by design, quality, and consistency.

Mentor and/or train Designers, CADD Technicians, and administrative staff.

Report to client or Halff offices daily.

All other duties as assigned.

What you will need

Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas (in good standing).

Bachelor\'s or master\'s degree in Civil Engineering or ABET-accredited equivalent (Civil, Structural, or Architectural preferred).

Minimum of 8 years of experience designing distribution for both overhead and underground lines for TNMP.

Experience with Distribution Design Studio (DDS).

Proficient in creating plan and profile distribution designs in AutoCAD.

Experience with CAD-based or GIS-based design tools for electric power infrastructure.

Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation, team-building, and collaboration skills.

Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.

Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Experience applying industry codes and standards (NESC and NEC).

Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable interacting with clients, management, and design teams.

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Engaged, active participant in an employee-owned firm.

Demonstrated positive interpersonal behaviors toward TNMP, associates, and customers.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of electrical theory and related power calculations.

Applied knowledge of design and construction standards and requirements.

Ability to perform related structural calculations (guying, cable pulling).

Ability to perform sag and tension calculations to ensure proper line clearance and install tension.

Ability to conduct distribution pole loading analysis to ensure proper pole sizing.
