Senior Electric Distribution Design Engineer (PE) – Energy, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, TX We are seeking experienced Senior Electric Distribution Design Engineers (PE) to join our Electric Power Delivery practice in San Antonio, Houston, or Dallas/Fort Worth, TX. The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of experience designing distribution lines for TNMP. This role offers a unique opportunity to work with co‑ops, municipalities, and investor‑owned utilities on new and upgraded overhead and underground electric distribution lines, as well as substation distribution takeoffs.
What you will do: Prepare designs, construction packages, and bills of material for progressively complex distribution line projects and provide engineering support throughout the project life cycle.
Perform on‑site visits to determine routes, staking, right‑of‑way requirements, and identify existing conditions for design preparation.
Serve as the customer point‑of‑contact throughout the work management process by responding to calls and emails and updating the tracking system.
Create, edit, analyze, and implement gas facility data updates from job construction sketches, as‑built sheets, or mobile applications using standardized TNMP symbology and business rules.
Attend pre‑construction meetings and address any issues that may arise during construction.
Perform electric power calculations for capacity determinations and effective sizing of distribution material and equipment.
Prepare mockups and designs as needed.
Perform QA/QC on distribution line designs and construction packages prepared by other designers.
Work with Project Managers and other teams to meet deadlines, aid in engineering decisions, and collaborate on projects.
Assist in developing distribution engineering design philosophies, standards, details, and specifications.
Continuously seek improvements to project execution processes, including safety by design, quality, and consistency.
Mentor and train Designers, CADD Technicians, and administrative staff.
Report to client office or Halff office daily.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
What you will need: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas (in good standing).
Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or an ABET‑accredited equivalent (Civil, Structural, or Architectural preferred).
Minimum of 8 years of experience designing overhead and underground electric distribution lines for TNMP.
Experience with Distribution Design Studio (DDS).
Proficiency in creating plan and profile distribution designs in AutoCAD.
Experience with CAD‑based or GIS‑based design tools for electric power infrastructure.
Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation, team building, and collaboration skills.
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
Experience applying relative industry codes and standards, including NESC and NEC.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; confidence interacting closely with clients, management, and design teams.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of electrical theory and related power calculations.
Applied knowledge of design and construction standards and requirements.
Skill in performing related structural calculations such as guying and cable pulling.
Ability to perform sag and tension calculations to ensure proper line clearance and installation tension.
Ability to conduct distribution pole loading analysis to ensure proper pole sizing.
