Restaurant Host
The Restaurant Host is responsible for creating a warm and inviting first impression for guests by greeting and seating them promptly and courteously. This role manages the flow of guests in the dining area, maintains an organized waitlist, coordinates seating assignments with servers, and ensures smooth and efficient table turnover. The Host supports a positive dining experience by providing excellent customer service and assisting with guest inquiries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet guests warmly upon arrival and thank them as they leave.
- Manage reservations and waitlist efficiently, optimizing seating and guest flow.
- Provide accurate wait times and communicate effectively with guests.
- Escort guests to their tables, provide menus, and inform servers of guest arrival.
- Coordinate seating with serving staff to optimize table utilization and guest satisfaction.
- Answer phone calls and respond to guest inquiries professionally and promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the host station and entrance area.
- Assist in managing guest complaints or concerns, escalating to management when necessary.
- Operate reservation systems and phones.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
Standing and walking for extended periods (68 hours). Lift and carry up to 20 lbs. (e.g., menus, high chairs, booster seats). Reach, bend, and move quickly to assist guests. Work in a busy restaurant environment with fluctuating noise and activity levels.
Qualifications:
- Experience in high-volume, upscale casual dining or an equivalent service environment preferred.
- High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
- At least 18 years of age (unless permitted by law).
- High energy and stamina. Able to work within a fast-paced, highly mobile environment.
- Able to stand and walk for up to 10 hours per day preferred.
- Able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Able to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
- Able to work flexible shifts and schedules, inclusive of weekends, and some holidays.
- Certified in (or able to be certified in) responsible alcohol service (as required by state or local law).
- Able to perform essential functions and demonstrate competencies to company standards with reasonable accommodation.
Able to communicate effectively in the primary language of the work location (verbal and written).
