Salary : $133,000-186,000 per year

The Opportunity
Our client, a top global law firm , is looking to hire a Manager, Business Development to support its Litigation practice in Chicago. This is a strong opportunity for a business development professional who enjoys partnering closely with high-performing lawyers, contributing to strategic growth initiatives, and working across pitches, client development, thought leadership, and profile-raising efforts. The level of hire will depend on the candidate’s experience and scope of prior responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic business development: Help shape and execute business development plans that support the Litigation practice’s priorities, client targets, and broader growth objectives.
Client and market research: Conduct research on clients, prospects, industries, and competitors, and distill findings into practical recommendations for attorneys and business development leadership.
Pitches and pursuit support: Draft and coordinate customized pitches, RFP responses, presentations, and other materials for new business opportunities and client meetings.
Profile-building initiatives: Support efforts to enhance the visibility of the practice and its lawyers through speaking engagements, programs, sponsorships, publications, and other market-facing opportunities.
Thought leadership coordination: Identify opportunities for alerts, articles, webinars, panel participation, and related content that showcase the practice’s experience and perspective.
Partner support and integration: Contribute to initiatives that support partner onboarding, market positioning, and cross-selling efforts.
Directory and awards submissions: Manage submissions for legal directories, rankings, and other recognitions relevant to the practice.
Event execution: Work with internal teams to support seminars, client programs, and other events tied to relationship development and market visibility.
Marketing collateral and experience tracking: Maintain practice descriptions, attorney bios, representative matters, and related marketing materials to ensure they are current, accurate, and compelling.
Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with colleagues across communications, events, CRM, and other business services functions to support coordinated business development efforts.
Confidentiality and judgment: Exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive firm, client, and competitive information.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field preferred
6+ years of Relevant business development and marketing experience within a law firm or professional services environment
Strong preference for experience supporting Litigation or disputes-related practices
Demonstrated understanding of business development fundamentals, including pitch development, competitive intelligence, client research, events, and profile-raising activities
Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational and project-management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple deadlines and stakeholders
Professional presence and the ability to build credibility with attorneys and senior internal stakeholders
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with CRM platforms, proposal tools, and emerging AI-enabled BD tools is a plus
