Scheduler
Functioning within the Health Systems mission, values, objectives, procedures and policies, the Scheduler obtains patient information to schedule patients into the Health System computer system for ancillary department testing and treatment. Uses knowledge of medical terminology to perform duties accurately and efficiently. When applicable, verifies appropriate diagnosis for medical necessity and/or alerts clinical staff of missing documentation/forms.
Education
Post-secondary coursework in medical terminology or computer skills are desirable. An Associate degree is preferred.
Licensure/Certification
None required.
Experience
Previous experience as a registration interviewer, medical or ward secretary experience is preferred. Experience in transcribing verbal orders desirable. Experience with coding preferred.
Skills
Performs a variety of functions supporting the scheduling department. Must have excellent communication skills and demonstrate a professional demeanor in all situations and with all constituents including patients, physicians, and co-workers. Must exhibit patience and tact in dealing with ill patients; work with speed and proficiency while under stress; be cooperative with other associates and departments as needed; and show flexibility with work schedule changes.
