Job Summary
Fills critical short-term vacancies in designated areas. Registers and interviews patients, completes pre-admissions, and ensures information accuracy. Handles routine patient inquiries and issues. Works closely with other areas including departments and physician offices. Greets patients and processes them through to the appropriate area.

Essential Functions

Registers or pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services.

Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for all services that require authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral.

Coordinates with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures until authorization or patient payment can be arranged. Requests upfront payment of deposits from responsible party.

Updates schedule for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes on an ongoing basis.

Physical Requirements
Frequently requires walking from different areas. Must be able to push a wheelchair with a patient in it and maneuver through doors, ramps, and elevators. Must respond quickly to medical stats and emergencies. Requires sitting frequently. Must lift 20-50 pounds occasionally. Works in a fast-paced environment with numerous interruptions.

Education, Experience and Certifications
High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred. Must have accurate spelling, attention to detail, and type 40 words per minute. Knowledge of patient registration, insurance, hospital billing, medical terminology, and third-party reimbursement preferred. Excellent communication and customer service skills required.
