Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Maintenance 1 Technician
to join our team in Athens, Ga. This hands‑on role is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production machinery and mechanical systems to ensure consistent, efficient operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of industrial equipment and facility systems as well as possess a proactive approach to maintenance, keeping detailed records and working efficiently to keep operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose and resolve mechanical and control issues in production machinery using diagrams, sketches, manuals, and manufacturer specifications
Tear down, rebuild, and adjust machinery and mechanical equipment for optimal performance
Perform facility maintenance tasks including welding, plumbing, painting, and carpentry
Maintain facility systems such as lighting, HVAC, and structural components
Conduct preventive maintenance, lubrication, and documentation for production equipment
Keep detailed repair and maintenance logs and track downtime for each machine
Instruct production teams on proper preventive maintenance procedures
Ensure proper use, care, and organization of all tools and equipment
Basic knowledge of electrical theory, OSHA safety
Install, maintain, and troubleshoot motors, drives, relays, sensors, and solenoids
Basic PLC troubleshooting (inputs/outputs, sensors, ladder logic)
Preventive Maintenance (PM) and CMMS familiarity
Qualifications
Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose issues accurately without trial‑and‑error
Proficiency in the use of hand/power tools and measuring instruments
Ability to read blueprints and work with close tolerances
Capable of working independently, prioritizing tasks, and minimizing downtime
Perform additional duties as assigned
High school diploma or GED (minimum); technical school preferred
Flexibility for shifts, overtime, and on‑call work
Mechanical Requirements
High school diploma or GED (minimum); technical school preferred
Preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment
Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, bearings, belts, and conveyors
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
Precision alignment of motors, shafts, and pumps
Welding/fabrication a plus
1–3 years of industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience preferred
Plastic extrusion experience a plus
Electrical Requirements
Basic knowledge of electrical theory, OSHA safety
Install, maintain, and troubleshoot motors, drives, relays, sensors, and solenoids
Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLC I/O drawings
Familiarity with 480V 3‑phase systems, motor starters, and VFDs
Basic PLC troubleshooting (inputs/outputs, sensors, ladder logic)
Use of diagnostic tools (multimeter, megger)
General Skills
Preventive Maintenance (PM) and CMMS familiarity
Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
Flexibility for shifts, overtime, and on‑call work
Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and stand for long periods
Strong communication skills for reporting and coordination
Summary
A Class 1 Technician is expected to perform solid mechanical repairs and basic to intermediate electrical troubleshooting, ensuring production equipment stays operational and escalating advanced issues as needed.
