Duties Description
The New York State Education Department (NYSED)
is seeking candidates for a Print Equipment Operator 1 in the Department’s Printing Plant in the Cultural Education Center and Education Building Copy Center. The incumbent will assist higher level print shop staff in the basic, relatively unskilled, operating and clerical tasks associated with operating offset printing machines and auxiliary equipment in an agency print shop. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Perform offset print machine work that requires basic operation of printing and duplicating machines
Assemble paper stock needed to produce printed materials
Use powered forklifts and powered pallet jacks along with manual pallet jacks to move paper products to and from the presses and various other machines. Fork truck certification if needed will be provided print shop
Perform basic operation of finishing equipment including, but not limited to, a Rima counter stacker, Shanklin shrink wrap machine
Fill pockets and remove and stack finished products from a Muller Martini bindery machine
Load and unload material from delivery trucks/tractor trailers, and pile and stack on pallets when applicable
Assist with the packing and shipping of Regents Exams, including but not limited to running a Fed X labeling machine and packing and shipping Field tests
Operate a Bail-master wastepaper baling machine and remove bails of paper
Perform other duties as required

Conditions of Employment
This will be a contingent permanent, non-competitive appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. This position leads to a maximum salary of $44,828 based on annual performance advances. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
