Leidos Defense is seeking a talented Section Manager – High Speed Digital Design and Analysis to lead a team and contribute to programs for internal and external customers. The Electrical Systems Department focuses on advanced hardware solutions. The selected individual will supervise Electrical Design Engineers while contributing to programs and growing the team to support objectives, with emphasis on scaling and quality improvement. The role includes leading technical work on electronic assemblies for aerospace and military systems, including manned/unmanned vehicles, missiles, radars, and space systems. Time management and prioritization are essential to ensure project and organizational success.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong technical leadership, excellent communication, and a desire to build and develop a high-performing team to tackle challenging technical problems.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide technical oversight and mentorship to develop team members

Develop strong working relationships with team members to meet productivity and retention goals

Conduct regular staff meetings and one-on-ones with team members

Scale the team by identifying hiring needs, writing job postings, coordinating screening of applicants, interviewing, and making hiring recommendations

Architect, design, develop, and test complex PCB designs utilizing embedded microprocessors, microcontrollers, FPGAs, or SoCs to meet system requirements

Propose and implement ideas to improve organizational quality, agility, and capability

Support organizational business development goals by providing technical input to proposals

Perform necessary reporting, approvals, and other administrative tasks

Provide technical input to program leadership during planning and execution of engineering projects

Perform hardware system development from requirements derivation to design, fabrication, integration, and test

Balance management (~25%) and technical (~75%) responsibilities

Foster a learning environment that encourages leadership and technical growth

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related field and 8+ years of relevant experience

2+ years leading small to mid-sized technical teams

5+ years of experience in high-speed digital PCB design and troubleshooting (embedded processor, microcontroller, or FPGA-based)

Experience with high-speed design analysis tools such as HyperLynx

Experience with multiple high-speed serial standards and memory interfaces (e.g., GigE, 10 GigE, Aurora, DDR2/3/4, JESD204B, PCIe, SATA)

Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis abilities

Ability to decompose system-level considerations to lower design levels

Collaborative engineer working with multi-disciplinary teams

Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and system block diagrams

Solid understanding of fundamental circuits and components

Hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation and debug/test methods

Self-starter with the ability to work independently

Strong verbal and written technical communication skills

Residence in the North Alabama area or willingness to relocate to Huntsville-North Alabama, AL

U.S. Citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in electrical or computer engineering or ABET-accredited equivalent

Experience and/or working knowledge of: personnel management, process improvement, project management, business development, and electrical design for military/aerospace hardware

Pay Range
Pay Range $107,900.00 - $195,050.00
